Secondary Division Readiness Testing
Last updated April 3, 2024
Students’ placement in accelerated core math classes is contingent upon passing a readiness diagnostic. Certain other courses may also require a readiness test. ATDP’s readiness tests will be administered online this year. Testing will be proctored via live Zoom sessions on Saturday, May 18, 2024, beginning promptly at 1:00 PM. Details about joining the Zoom testing session and technology requirements will be emailed directly to students who are required to test.
Do I need to take a test?
Students who are enrolled in the following courses are required to take a readiness test.
- Algebra I
- Geometry
- Algebra II/Trigonometry
- Precalculus
- Web Development (except those who have completed both prerequisites)
- First-Year Japanese
Only ATDP students who are enrolled in these courses may test; students will NOT be admitted to the testing session if they do not have a confirmed enrollment into the relevant course. These tests are for placement purposes only. Families may be informed of a total percentage score as it relates to placement criteria, but detailed results will not be available.
What does the test cover?
Readiness tests typically only cover prerequisite topics, so students are not expected to know material from the course for which they are testing. For accelerated math courses, see our Math Readiness Study Guide for specific topics. For other courses, students and families with receive information separately about their readiness test.
What if I can’t test on May 18?
If you do not take the readiness exam, you will not be allowed to take the class you are enrolled in at ATDP this summer. If you cannot attend the May 18 testing session, we will schedule one or more make-up days depending on how many students still need to test. We will post make-up dates here after May 18, once they have been determined.
What if I don’t pass the test?
The test measures your readiness for (and not your current knowledge of) the course you requested. For most students, your score will confirm that the original placement was correct. In the past, a majority of students have received passing scores.
However, if your score is low, we may need to find a more appropriate course placement for you. Students whose test results indicate inadequate preparation for a very accelerated math course cannot take that course at ATDP, but we will gladly work with them to place them in an alternative course.
When will I know the results?
We aim to have results very quickly, within the following 1-2 business days. You may access your result via your online account menu. We will contact families via email if we need to help them find an alternate course placement.
