Secondary Division Student Orientation: June 3

Saturday, June 3, at Pauley Ballroom, Martin Luther King Jr. Student Union Building

Last names A-L, 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Last names M-Z, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Although attendance is optional, Welcome & Student Orientation is especially intended for new students and their parents. It will be held at Pauley Ballroom in the King Student Union building, located on Sproul Plaza near the southern edge of campus, at the intersection of Bancroft and Telegraph (see map).

This day is a good time for you to become familiar with the Berkeley campus, meet your instructor and your new classmates, ask questions of the ATDP staff, and find your classroom location. Attendees will hear former students share their ATDP experiences and receive advice from the Director and staff. At the end of the meeting, instructors will greet their students and hand out a letter which usually includes a first assignment due on the first day of class. Classes are held throughout the Berkeley campus (please refer to your yellow campus map, which is included in your admission packet). Final classroom locations will be posted on Orientation Day.

If you are unable to attend this meeting, you do not need to call the Program office. The following week, students who did not attend will receive by mail a letter from their instructor. If you need to attend the session that does not match your last name, you may do so without informing the office in advance.

Textbooks

Most course textbooks and readers will be available for purchase from Orientation on June 3 until your first day of class. See your green placement sheet for textbook information, or log in to your ATDP online account. You can buy textbooks at University Press Books, across Bancroft Way between Telegraph and Dana (2430 Bancroft Way, 510-548-0585).

Some teachers will require their students to buy a course reader (a compilation of photocopied material). If required, reader information will be included in the instructor’s letter you receive at Welcome & Orientation or through the mail. Buy readers at Copy Central (2576 Bancroft Way, 510-848-8649), about a block uphill from University Press Books.

Costs for course texts and readers are not included with tuition.
