Students frequently compare ATDP’s Secondary Division to an academic marathon, so I find it wise to ask marathon runners (who are also ATDP instructors) for advice on going the distance. One of the most dedicated marathoners, along with Kelly Mogilefsky, whom we featured in 2010, is our highly respected teacher of accelerated Geometry, Mr. Nakia Baird:
“I often tell my students that it’s not the 26.2 miles that’s tough, it’s surviving the 1000 miles of training to get to the start line. No one ever asks about those miles. This is much like the work we do on a daily basis. Big moments never happen without a steady effort over time.”
