Let's Talk About It
Reflection Prompts for Youth
Having meaningful and extended conversations with children can have a strong positive impact on literacy skills, social and emotional learning, and can just plain old build relationships and improve our quality of life. In this fun and interactive workshop we'll explore why conversations with children are so important, and learn and practice strategies for engaging in conversation. Of course, challenges can arise, and we'll work through some potential solutions together: What if we're tired or busy? Or if what the child says is incorrect or not what we would like to hear? This workshop is ideal for parents and guardians of children ages 2-10, but parents of older youth may find elements helpful as well.

Parents Writing to Support Student Writing
Parents often ask how they can better support their children's writing. In this parent Exploration, we will take one of the most direct approaches. By doing our own writing, we'll learn and recall more about the joys and challenges of writing, which helps us better understand our child's experience as a writer. This writing group will employ the free-writing techniques of Natalie Goldberg, giving you the chance to express your own creativity, perceptions, feelings and thoughts, while also providing an opportunity to reflect on how our needs may be similar or different to that of our children's. Please have paper and pen materials on hand for this Exploration, as we will be experimenting with the differences between writing on paper as well as writing with a keyboard.

Social Emotional Learning
Frequent meltdowns? Heated power struggles? Tough tantrums? Fear of taking risks? Children show us how much they need more tools and skills in SEL in many ways. Come explore activities that build Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) skills – so you can transfer them to your children in your role as a parent. We’ll cover the what, why, and how of five of the most popular SEL skills: Growth Mindset, Interpersonal Skills, Self-Management, Social Awareness, and Self-Awareness/Efficacy. We will also cover ways parents can boost their children’s resilience through 7 key parent practices.
