how comic books support students' academic growth
Parent Exploration
Currently, there is a rise in the popularity of comic books and graphic novels particularly for children and young adults. Although this rise is perceived by some parents to be counter-productive to reading growth, this workshop will explore the research on the beneficial educational impacts of reading comic books and graphic novels in young readers, such as an increase in motivation for, and engagement with reading, transportation into the narrative, and an increase in vocabulary learning that is comparable to reading traditional text-only works.
