Logging in to ATDP: Parent and Student Roles
Last updated Feb 17, 2026*
One student, two logins
By popular demand, we released a major update to the ATDP online account in 2025. A single account for student records can now be accessed by two different logins: one for the parent/guardian and one for the student. A parent login is required to submit applications, make payments, and electronically sign forms. They can also create and switch between multiple different student profiles. A student login does not have these abilities and is optional.
How do I get a parent or student login?

- If you are new to ATDP, first register and verify a new user login using your own email address. When you create a student profile in your account for the first time, you’ll be asked whether you yourself are the student or the parent/guardian. Please answer truthfully!
- If you are returning to ATDP, our system assigned a parent or student role to each account based on contact information that was provided previously. In most cases, parents retained access to student records. However, if you previously entered a parent-controlled email address as the student’s email address, you may have been assigned a student role. In this case, please reach out the ATDP staff and we’ll help correct your account role.
- If you’re not sure what account role you have, you can check the student’s profile in the top left of the account. The role is listed below the student name. (See image.)
How do I link a user to an existing student?
If you only have a student login with access to their records, the parent/guardian will need to link their own login.
- If the parent/guardian does not yet have an user login, register a new one and verify the email address. Stop after the verification step; do NOT create another student profile.
- In the student’s existing login, click on the student’s name to edit the student profile. The “Edit student profile” window will appear.
- Scroll down to the “Logins & emails” section. This shows which two user logins have access to this student’s records.
- If no parent login is linked, click “Link a parent login.”
- Enter the parent’s email address and click “Send invitation.” Make sure that the parent’s email address matches the address they use for their own user login exactly. Double-check for typos!
- The parent/guardian will receive the invitation email at their address. This will include a clickable link that will add them to the student’s profile. You must be logged in as the parent on the emailed device for the link to work.
- If successful, the student profile will now appear for the parent login.
Parent/guardians can also invite their students to link their own logins to an existing profile! Simply swap roles in the instructions above. We encourage older students to complete as much of the ATDP application as they can on their own; it’s great practice for college applications!
*We previously referred to user logins as “accounts.” For clarity, we have updated this language so families know there is always only one account for the student, no matter which user is logged in.
