An text index of this website is added today: the ATDP Sitemap. The Sitemap is an organized listing of the main informational pages on the ATDP website, with easy-to-find links to program and application information and documents. (Comments on the usefulness--or not--of this sitemap are most welcome: write the Webmaster.)

New sections added: the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) pages for both the SD and ED. Check them out, applicants old and new (yes, returning students... you might still learn a new thing or two about the program!):

Elementary Division Open House
Washington Elementary School, Point Richmond CA
(News item contributed by Candace Grant, ATDP staff)

Washington Elementary School ATDP families braved the wind and rain on Saturday, February 6 to get a sneak preview of our new Elementary Division site, Washington Elementary School in Point Richmond. Guests sipped coffee and tea against the cold conditions and enjoyed choice pastries and a tour of the school grounds. Washington Elementary's pricipal Kaye Burnside, ATDP's summer elementary supervisor, welcomed former and prospective students to her school, as did Dr. Nina Gabelko, the program director. ATDP staff were on duty to answer questions and several Washington teachers opened their classrooms to students and their families. All students who are accepted to the summer program will be invited back to Washington School in July for Orientation. Driving directions to Point Richmond can be found in the ATDP brochure, as well as here on the ATDP website.

Our very first web-printed application came in the mail today... and the pioneer is a 5th grader named Philip, who lives in Sonoma. His first course choice was Software Design Team. (Wow! Talk about an early application. Yes folks, the sooner you send a complete application in, the better. Don't wait until the last minute.)

The 1999 ED application online form joins its older sibling on the website. Reminder to applicants who wish to use the online forms: please PRINT the pages on your printer at home. (Do NOT download the forms, as you will lose the formatting or worse, get a page with the HTML source on it.)

The 1999 SD application online form makes its appearance on the website. Although not a true online form in which data is sent via the web, this form replicates the printed version well enough to be printed at home (applicants in a hurry to complete the application can thus bypass the process of mailing in a self-addressed stamped manila envelope in order to obtain the brochure and application packet).

summer in berkeley SD and ED 1999 brochures are on their way, courtesy of UC Printing and UC Berkeley's Mailing Division. The brochure fronts are in color for the first time, and we hope you like the subtle shades of blue, gold and green. (The cover is based on the campus photograph shown here.) Look for them in your mailbox within the next couple of weeks.

We profusely apologize for the absence of any news items between Sept. through Dec., 1998. During that period, ATDP's webmaster was moving from one domain to another, so to speak, and is now currently updating this page and the website from the slopes of Haleakala Volcano, in Maui, at around the 3,000 ft. elevation. It's a long telecommute, but only in miles--a Telnet or FTP connection from Pukalani, HI to Berkeley, CA is about as fast as the speed of light, along trans-Pacific fiberoptic cables...
