Connecting to the ATDP weberver

As a student in this class, you already have an account on the ATDP server. Once you log on, you'll see the 2030 directory (or folder) where sub-directories for each student in this class are found. When you open the 2030 directory, you will see a list of directories, including yours. You will be able to access only your own directory.

Space is at a premium in the ATDP server, so please limit yourself to a maximum of 10 megabytes of data on your directory. Later on (after the summer session), if you wish to expand your site, we will be able to provide you with a bit more space.

To access the server and upload or download your HTML documents and files, you will use the FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client on our lab PCs. The client is called WS_FTP LE 5.0 and you'll find it in the Start -->> Networking menu.

Your account login and password information will be announced in class, as well as explained by your Group TA, so pay close attention. It is not detailed here, for obvious reasons. Enter the following information in the FTP client:

          hostname: (or server)atdpweb.soe.berkeley.edu
login: <you'll know what this is>
          password: <...same here>

Once logged in, you will automatically be brought to the 2030 directory. Open (double-click) this, to get to your directory. TIP: You can also go there directly by entering: "2030/youraccountname" in the PATH field.
