::MUSIC::

Well I guess the section is dedicated to talking about my favorite music groups. I guess we can start with the type of music I like. Unlike lots of people, I have a pretty open taste of music - I like MOST music. But, since that is too general, i will only talk about the types I love. Pretty much is is narrowed down to hiphop, latin or afro-cuban, and soul.

Hiphop

I love hiphop; it is probably the main music i listen to. BUT, hell f*in' no, im not listening to some weak shit. Not the Hot Boys, or Master P, Puff Daddy or any of that shit. I listen to real hiphop. Some of my favorites are Dead Prez, Busta Rhymes, the Roots, the Coup, Common, Mos Def, and many many others. This is the real shit. They rhyme about true things... like police brutality, poverity, corruption, and many other problems that face people that live in the real world. If you want to see a great example of what i'm talking about, open up your napster, and search for "Dead Prez - Hip Hop". (yes, I approve of Napster ;P) Hiphop combines knockin' beats and loops, over rhymes, creating a sound that is unique, and fun to listen to. that sounded corny as hell.

Latin

When I play percussion, or piano, usually i will play a form of Latin music. Many people call this kind of music "salsa", but as the late Tito Puente said, "...it was always called 'Latin', not salsa..." and so to uphold the roots of the music, I call it "Latin." Latin music, especially Afro-Cuban, have the best rhythms of any music i've ever heard. Hearing it just makes you want to dance. It can be such intense music, and can convey all emotions. The image to the right is the album cover for the "Buena Vista Social Club" soundtrack. The "BVSC" for short, was a GREAT documentary, set in Cuba. I won't give much of it away, but it was a wonderful movie, and I suggest you seeing it. For a good example of Latin music, in napster, search for "Buena Vista Social Club - Chan Chan."

Soul

Soul is great music. I can listen to it all the time. It's just the classics. The tight bass lines, and drum licks just put it together. You can't get better then a good song by someone like Bobby Caldwell, Barry White, or the Spinners. For a great example of this music, once again, get napster, and download "Bobby Caldwell - What You Won't Do For Love".

I don't know what else to say. ;P
